the fortified castles, the military remains of the Maginot Line, the sandstone summits covered with magnificent forests of fir, beech or pine and the lively little hamlets with their master crystal makers and stone carvers.

Against this harmonious landscape stands the distant spire of Strasbourg Cathedral.

Day 1 : Wissembourg (Station at Wissembourg. The hotel is at a 5 min walk from the station.)
Arrival in Wissembourg, settling into the hotel and tour of the old town and museum. 1st night. Arrival at Strasbourg station and transfer to Wissembourg = Extra +. Free car park at Hotel.

Day 2 : Wissembourg - Lembach 20 km
Departure via the Col du Pigeonnier towards the Pfaffenschlick and the Soultzerkopf. Arrival in Lembach where the Four à Chaux, a former fortress of the Maginot Line, is situated. 2nd night.

Day 3 : Lembach - Niedersteinbach 17 km or Lembach - Obersteinbach ~ 20 km
Castles of Loewenstein and Hohenbourg. Castle of Fleckenstein which was formerly one of the most imposing in the Vosges, castle of Froensbourg. 3rd night.

Day 4 : Niedersteinbach - Niederbronn 21 km or Obersteinbach - Niederbronn 17 km
Castle of Schoeneck followed by climb of the Grand Wintersberg, highest point in the Northern Vosges at an altitude of 581 m.
Arrival at the spa town of Niederbronn-les-Bains via the Dittenthal and the Celtic Encampment. 4th night.

Day 5 : Niederbronn - Reipertswiller 20 km or Niederbronn - Ingwiller 25 km
Castle of Wasenbourg which overlooks the Niederbronn valley followed by the romantic remains of the Grand Arnsbourg.
Descent via Untermuehlthal into the village of Reipertswiller.
5th night.

Day 6 : Reipertswiller - La Petite Pierre 22 km or Ingwiller - La Petite Pierre 20 km
Castle of Lichtenberg restored by Vauban in 1680 and transformed again in the 19th century. Via the villages of Wimmenau and Erckartswiller we come to La Petite Pierre, a village of forests centred on its castle which is also the headquarters of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Reserve. 6th night.

Day 7 : La Petite Pierre - Saverne 20 km
Castle of Hunebourg in neo-Romanesque style, remains of the Daubenschlagfels followed by descent towards Saint-Jean-lès-Saverne and its 12th Century abbey church. Arrival in Saverne.
7th night.

Day 8 : Saverne
Exploration of Saverne: old town with the Maison Katz and the imposing neo-classical Rohan castle.
Final transfer to Wissembourg by taxi. Include (car in Wissembourg)
Or direct departure to Strasbourg or Paris by train from Saverne.
